My Favorite Designers

Updated: Feb 18, 2023

I crochet, well, a lot. Therefore, I have some favorite designers that I come back to again and again. Each of the following designers has a unique perspective on pattern writing and style that has me eagerly awaiting their next release. Below, I will show you the projects I have made from each of these designers as well as my favorite aspects of their patterns. Here we go!

TL Yarncrafts: Toni is a great place to start for beginners, but she’s a designer I come back to on repeat as a seasoned crocheter. Her patterns are fun, simple, and perfect for a night in crocheting. She designs in both traditional crochet and Tunisian. Her patterns made me realize that pattens do not have to be overly complicated to make an impact. I have made more than a handful of her patterns, and absolutely love her book, The Tunisian Crochet Handbook. Her YouTube channel is also great place to get started

Nomad Stitches: Sandra, of Nomad Stitches, is a wizard with colorwork (including mosaic!) crochet, and has a true love of language. Not only does she work to have her patterns available in several languages, but she also chooses the names of many of her patterns from languages around the world. I knew I was going to love Sandra’s designs as soon as I saw her Confetti DK Pullover. It uses simple stiches in a beautiful fade to work pure magic. Here’s my version!

I also bought her book, Color Crochet Knitwear and am current working on a modified version of the Lagom Pullover, with my eye on a few more patterns within the book. Find her here! https://nomadstitches.com/

Knits N Knots: Janine is both a crochet and knot designer, and has a little bit of everything to try! Personally, I love her sweater patterns. She works with Lion Brand Yarns for collaborations often, and I first tried her work with a kit for the Timberwood Tank. The pattern cleverly uses short rows and slip stitches for a unique fit.

She also released a book, Modern Crochet Sweaters, that offers patterns for date night, or a cozy night in. I used her pattern for the Amber Magic Sweater for my birthday top last year! Find her here! https://knitsnknots.ca/

Haley Handcrafted: Haley is a fantastic crochet designer that writes garments in a recipe-style which I really love. It also allows the maker to create a garment that fits them specifically, and it easy to modify. I have tested her patterns on multiple occasions, and she is fantastic to work with. Her Pebbled Path Cardigan is favorite of mine that I wear all the time. And I love the pattern so much, I made my best friend and sister each their own! She also has some great shawls and wraps that are perfect for those special skeins in your stash. Find her on Raverly here! https://www.ravelry.com/designers/haley-herman

Hooked Hazel: Emily is wonder woman who designs in knit, traditional crochet, and Tunisian. I love checking our her patterns for fun ways to try new stitches and techniques. I have also pattern tested for her and she is a fantastic designer to test for. Here is my version of the Meryton Shawlette and Shiloh Cardigan! Find her here! http://hookedhazel.com/
