My Favorite Indie Yarn Dyers

Updated: Feb 21, 2023

There's just something magic in a hand-dyed skein of yarn. The thoughtfulness, the time, and the personality of each dyer takes these yarns to the next level. Let's explore some of my favorites!

Hand Dyed Wool:

Sewrella: For super femme and whole collection vibes, I love Sewrellla. Ashleigh and her yarn fairies are spectacular for curated collections around a whole theme. Not only do they dye amazing colorways they also pair teas, hand creams, and the most heavenly wool wash for each collection. Again, a whole vibe. You can find their yarn on their website, sewrellayarn.com, and be sure to follow their Instagram for up-to-date collections. Here are some of the projects I have made with Sewrella Yarn!

Montana Crochet: For moody earth tones, you have to check out Montana Crochet. Ashley pulls inspiration from her love of Montana, and her colorways are GORGEOUS. Her work is especially great if you love browns, coppers, or greens. She sells her yarn and patterns at montanacrochet.com, and her Instagram give you a preview of her upcoming collections. Here’s a cowl I made with two of her OOAK (one of a kind) colorways!

Malabrigo: For super saturated colors, I use Malabrigo. Their colorways are perfect for adding a punch of color to your make- each colorway is rich and decadent. Even the neutrals! Pure magic. I found their yarn at my local yarn store, but you can also purchase their yarn online at malabrigoyarn.com. Here’s a sweater and shawl I made with their yarns!

Wonderland Yarns: For whimsical and soft colors, I love using Wonderland Yarns. I have been a brand ambassador for them for 2 years now, and love trying new yarns from this company. They have provided yarn support for some of my designs and makes, and I have worked with them to design patterns for their monthly clubs. Also, their mini packs are AMAZING. You can find them online at frabjousfiber.com, or at your local yarn store. Here are some of my favorite projects made in Wonderland!

The Frosted Stitch: For out-of-the-box collection concepts and colors, I turn to The Frosted Stitch. Christa is awesome with collaborated with designers when she releases a new collection, and has had collections such as The Library Collection, Echoes, and even a Drive-In Movie colorway of the month. You can buy her yarn online at thefrostedstitch.ca, and be sure to follow her Instagram as well for upcoming collections. Here is a shawl I made with her Library mini skeins!

Hand Dyed Cotton:

LeRoo Cotton: For super saturated COTTON, check out LeRoo Cotton. Her colorways are deep and luxe, which can be difficult to achieve in a cotton. She sells her work online at leroocotton.com, and also in local yarn stores. Here’s a bralette I made with LeRoo Cotton!

Terrapin Fiberworks: For delightful neutrals and farmer’s market inspired colors, I go to Terrapin Fiberworks. She’s a whiz at creating delicious colorways and her greens are phenomenal. She runs collection and subscription based yarn lines, which you can purchase online at terrapinfiberworks.com. Check out her Instagram for all the details! Here’s the Colosseum Cowl I designed using her yarn!
